Joseph E. Compton, Jr

Born in 1955, Joseph is a native of west central Alabama. In 1977, he graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Commerce & Business Administration with a Major in Marketing and an emphasis in Management.

Upon graduation he went to work in the steel industry of Birmingham, AL and in early 1978 moved to Memphis, TN to begin a 27½ year career with the largest LTL carrier in the nation. Joseph’s career in the transportation industry began in the basic operations of a major distribution hub and then to a national line-haul operation managing over 400 road drivers. Joseph’s career moved from operations into various senior sales management positions with over 40 full time sales executives and a budget responsibility of over $100 million in annual sales. Joseph played a key role in opening the first Puerto Rican operation for his company.  

Upon retiring from the carrier side of the industry, Joseph and a partner formed Freight Technology, Inc. and has copyrighted and trademarked a freight rating software tool called “Comp-U-Rate” which is now being licensed and used across the United States. The company has also developed a fleet loading optimization tool for the industry.

Joseph also established Compton & Associates, LLC., whose main focus is business and personal growth seminars. Their transportation seminars focus on teaching companies how to reduce and manage their freight costs. David Clinkscales

Born in 1960, David Clinkscales is a native of the central Alabama area.  In 1982, he graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a degree in Business Management.  

Upon graduation he went to work as a dispatcher for Pursell Industries, a small regional fertilizer company in Sylacauga, Alabama. During the next 15 years Pursell grew over 400% to become the second largest supplier of fertilizer and lawn care products in the United States.  David served as Pursell’s Director of Transportation and Distribution.  His responsibilities included the purchasing and management of rail, truck and barge transportation for all inbound and outbound material, management of the transportation department which shipped over 10,000 truckloads each year and the selection / performance evaluation of nine outside productions sites.  

In 1998 David joined EBSCO Industries, Inc. EBSCO is a privately owned conglomerate of companies whose combined sales exceed $1 billion per year in products that range from fishing lures to magazine sales.  In addition to transportation management work, David was responsible for corporate wide carrier contract negotiations, carrier performance, and inter-company compliance with carrier selection for EBSCO’s 32 manufacturing locations.

In  2002 David founded Transpotential, a transportation management company that worked with shippers’ overall transportation and logistics needs. Early in 2005 with other partners David established Freight Management, LLC. whose goal is to work with manufacturers or purchasers of freight to improve their overall practices. Whether it is truckload, less than truckload (LTL), ground or air, David advises companies on both their inbound and outbound shipments.  On average, clients have seen improvement in their freight cost by 21% while at the same time obtaining improved overall service.
